We will have two visiting faculty and a group of five visiting university scholars from Russia presenting on various topics on Russian culture. There will be a total of three presentations, occuring September 3, 10, and 17 in Trimble Hall 200. Refreshments will be served!
- 12:00 PM1hDiscourse Community Analysis (DCA) Workshop for ENGL 1301This workshop explores the first major essay for English 1301, the Discourse Community Analysis. The Writing Center consultants will define what a discourse community is and review what makes for a successful DCA.We’ll spend time breaking down the assignment and providing tips/suggestions for how to go about tackling, outlining, and drafting the paper. During the workshop, there will be writing consultants on hand to work on DCA drafts for any interested student.Learn how to directly address your audience, come up with evidence, and establish your credibility as a writer. Do you find it difficult to juggle everything and still stay healthy? If so, join us for ways to incorporate healthy habits in your life to be consistent and progress in your health without taking too much of your time. We will discuss things such as cooking strategies, exercise, and overall lifestyle skills that you will need in your busy season.Presenter Bio: Stacie Ellis, PhD, RDN, LD, is the Registered Dietitian at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she provides nutrition consultations and education for the students and staff on campus. Stacie is the proud owner of EXCELLIS Nutrition, a company geared towards performance nutrition, weight management, disordered eating, and medical nutrition therapy. Stacie serves as a consulting dietitian for Wellness Concepts and Health Fairs Direct. She recently received her Doctoral degree in Nutrition with a minor in Kinesiology at Texas Woman's University. Her dissertation involved comparing a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet to a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet on performance in dancers. She has been interviewed with Women’s Health Magazine, The Oak Cliff Documentary, and Texas Metro News, and she also completed the Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management Program on June 4-6, 2015.
