As part of this semester’s International Education Week celebrations, the Office of International Education invites all Mavericks to submit a photograph entry to be featured in the global photo exhibition, See the Unseen. This exhibition focuses on showcasing the often-overlooked elements of culture and community that shape the world around us.Student submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges, and prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place student entries in three different themes.Maverick community members may submit one photo per category for consideration across any of the following categories:Intercultural Immersion: Captures moments where individuals are immersed in the culture of their host country (U.S. or abroad). Photos might showcase students engaging in everyday activities that reflect the unique aspects of the host country's culture, or participating in local events, traditions, or festivals. Photos may also capture a moment or scene, which creates a culturally immersive or -reflective experience for the viewer.Culture & Landscapes: Highlight the natural beauty and landscapes of host country locations (U.S. or abroad). Participants can submit photographs of landscapes, environments, iconic landmarks, scenic vistas, or natural wonders that play a significant role in shaping the host culture. Examples include images of geographic formations tied to cultural myths, or landscapes which impact the current economic and cultural circumstances of a host community.Cultural Crossings: Photos that capture the interactions and connections between people from different cultures OR photos which illustrate the ways that cross-cultural trade and culture exchange impacts daily life in the host culture. Photos might include moments of cross-cultural friendship and collaboration between people, or scenes which represent an example of the mixing point of multiple cultures in the environment or in an object in the host country (U.S. or abroad).We welcome Mavericks of any and all US- and international experiences to participate - photos from your travel to visit family, study abroad, volunteer, or sightsee in a country different from your own are equally welcome.Submissions will be accepted through October 31! The McNair Scholars Program is a competitive program funded by the U.S. Department of Education to prepare university juniors and seniors who are low-income, first generation, and/or underrepresented in graduate education for doctoral education. Dance and public performance are two elements of human society that span across all cultures and peoples of the globe. This system of cultural expression often consists of detailed choreography and elaborate costumes, uniting our communities through shared connections and ritual presentation.For Latin America, dance is interwoven throughout the tapestry of their historical traditions. Beginning with the indigenous cultures of the Aztec, Inca, Maya, and Olmec, their celebratory carnivals and festivals evolved under the influence of European and African dance traditions to incorporate not only celebrational experiences but also used for expressions of faith, mourning, and even resistance.On view for the fall 2025 semester are a series of vibrantly painted and intricately decorated masks and dance costumes from Bolivia, Guatemala, and Mexico. They represent Latin America’s wide breadth of historical dance and parade traditions, ranging from the Bailé de los Animales to the annual Carnaval.Please join us throughout the semester to celebrate these works and their expressions of beauty, creativity, and connection through dance.It will be open Monday, September 8 – Thursday, November 20; 9am – 5pm. The Gallery at UTA is pleased to present its 20th “Faculty Biennial,” a showcase for recent work created by faculty from the University of Texas at Arlington Department of Art and Art History. Scheduled every two years, this exhibition presents a sampling of what the art and design professors accomplish in their creative and scholarly endeavors outside the classroom. The 2025 exhibition, which runs October 20 through November 15, features 31 faculty members working in a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, glass, printmaking, cinematic arts, and design. In addition, the department's art historians and art educators will have examples of recent publications on display."As we near the 40th anniversary of this gallery of contemporary art, it is wonderful to see the range of work our faculty are engaged in making and how it serves as an exemplar of what The Gallery at UTA is all about. We are focused on bringing innovative art and design to our public community and our faculty's creative work does just that, time and again. The Fall 2025 Grad Finale will be held at the UTA Bookstore starting Tuesday, October 21, and continuing until Thursday, October 23. The event will start daily at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. each day. Join us as we kick off the graduation season with special pricing on graduation regalia, graduation announcements, invitations, official class rings, and more.There will be special visits from Blaze and a live DJ on site to help celebrate graduates.Find everything you need for commencement. Students will take part in quick activities at two stations: the Knowledge Wall, where you can add your voice to a public conversation and grab a donut, and the Digital Deep Dive, a short survey with a chance to spin for prizes. Steps of Hope is a student-led cancer awareness walk designed to bring together students, faculty, staff, and community members in solidarity with cancer survivors and in support of ongoing research. The purpose is to raise awareness about cancer, honor survivors and those we’ve lost, and raise funds supporting cancer research and local support services. This event aims to foster unity, compassion, and campus-wide engagement around an important health cause.It will be a one-hour, campus-centered walk of approximately .5–1 mile. Health organizations will host educational booths and a storytelling area.All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). Prevention is not only about recognizing warning signs. It is also about strengthening protective factors that help keep our community safe and thriving.Wellness Walks are more than just a chance to get some fresh air. They connect directly to the Relationship Violence & Sexual Assault Prevention program’s mission of fostering a safer, more supportive campus.
