Celebrate achievements and history all month on campus

The University of Texas at Arlington will commemorate Black History Month throughout February with a series of events, including live music, film screenings, an open mic night and much more, celebrating African American achievements and recognizing their central role in U.S. history.
UTA’s student and campus groups will host more than 20 events aimed at both education and entertainment. Black History Month, which dates back to 1915, honors the contributions of Black Americans to U.S. culture and history.
Event highlights include:
National Pan-Hellenic Council Black History Month Kickoff — Celebrate the start of Black History Month at Brazos Park on Monday, Feb. 3 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
February Power Hour: Soul Food Edition — Join the Center for African American Studies (CAAS) for an engaging discussion on the history of soul food, featuring a live cooking demonstration by Chef Rodrick Finch. This event will take place in the Red River Room at the University Center on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from noon – 1 p.m.
Rhythm and Blues Fest — Experience the power of music at the first-ever Rhythm and Blues Fest, featuring 11-time Grammy Award nominee Marvin Sapp and Grammy Award winner Anthony Hamilton. The R&B and Gospel greats will take the stage at Texas Hall on Friday, Feb. 7 from 7 – 10 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets are required. To reserve tickets, visit utatickets.com.
Center for African American Studies Annual Conference — The CAAS will host its all-day annual conference on Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at the University Center.
Marvel’s Wakanda Forever Movie Night — The Intercultural Student Programming Board presents a special screening of Wakanda Forever at the Rosebud Theatre at the University Center on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 6 – 8 p.m.
Roots & Rhythm: Black History Month Open Mic Night — Showcase your talent or enjoy performances at Roots & Rhythm, an open mic night presented by the Black Student Association. This event will take place in the Rio Grande Ballroom at the University Center on Monday, Feb. 24 from 6 – 8 p.m.
Y2K Night — Step back into the early 2000s at Y2K Night, hosted by EXCEL Student Activities and the Black Student Association. Enjoy music, fashion and fun throwbacks in the Rio Grande Ballroom at the University Center on Thursday, Feb. 27 from 5 – 8:00 p.m.
