UTA announced remote classes and work will be extended through Friday due to anticipated winter weather and travel conditions, according to a MavAlert.
If a class is unable to be held remotely, it will be canceled for the day. Employees will work remotely unless their position requires their services for emergency operations.
UTA initially announced Thursday operations would move remotely in a MavAlert Wednesday.
The closure will also affect the UTA Research Institute, the UTA Fort Worth Center and all other UTA locations.
The winter intersession ends Thursday with finals Friday, according to UTA’s website. The first day of classes is Monday.
“After 5 p.m.” parking rules went into effect noon Wednesday and will last through midnight Sunday, according to previous Shorthorn reporting. All permit holders can park in the West Campus or College Park garages without additional fees.
The top floors and ramps of the College Park, West Campus and Maverick parking garages may be closed. Additional areas may be restricted for safety.
“We’re going to see some precipitation start to move in Thursday morning with some slick spots definitely by midmorning,” said Madi Gordon, National Weather Service meteorologist. “Into the afternoon we are going to see roads deteriorate and see more travel impacts as we have generally a mix of sleet and rain.”
Gordon said there will most likely be some melting Friday afternoon, but any water on the road will refreeze.
“Friday morning commute is going to be very hazardous,” she said. “It’ll probably be a little better during the day Friday, but then Saturday morning, again, there’s going to be some slick spots from anything that’s left over.”
In a Tuesday press release, Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to increase the readiness level of the Texas State Operations Center to Level 2, an escalated response, ahead of expected weather impacts beginning Wednesday and lasting through the weekend.
The women’s basketball team's original 6:30 p.m. Thursday matchup was initially rescheduled to 4 p.m., according to a Tuesday press release. Following an update to the team's X account, the matchup against Utah Tech University has been closed to the public due to safety considerations and will now be livestreamed on WAC International at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s game against Southern Utah University is still scheduled for 2 p.m. Any updates will be provided on the Athletics department’s website.
Arlington ISD announced that schools, offices, after-school activities and childcare will continue to be closed Friday due to weather impacting the area.
