Applications to run in the Student Government campus elections open Monday. Candidates can apply via an online form to get involved in leadership roles.
Campaign slots are available for student body president, student body vice president, student senators and UTA ambassadors. Campaigning begins March 5 and the deadline to file for campus elections is March 9.
Business senator Andres Morales said Student Government helps him connect with an even wider variety of cultures and backgrounds than he encountered when he served in the military.
"Student Government is important to UTA because there's sometimes a disconnect from the administration to the students and Student Government is that middleman,” he said.
Student Government’s work gives students a voice, and Morales said he likes being a part of something that will outlive his time at UTA. He said more people should experience Student Government.
"Don't be afraid,” he said. “If you have the slightest interest in running a campaign, but you're thinking you don't know if you can do it or not, give it a shot."
Student body president
The student body president ensures all branches run smoothly and meets with administrators such as UTA President Jennifer Cowley, said Morales. The president also has veto power over resolutions.
Student body vice president
The vice president works alongside the president, assisting in meetings with the administration and helping address student issues, Morales said.
Student senators
Student senators represent their peers from different colleges, ensuring their concerns and voices are heard in Student Government, Morales said.
UTA ambassadors
Led by Mr. and Ms. UTA, theambassadors serve as the hosts and hostesses for the university, Morales said. They help coordinate and represent UTA at events and foster community engagement.
