EXCEL's Maverick All Nighter plans roller skating, movie night and more

Students can hang out after hours during the retro-themed Maverick All Nighter from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday in the University Center. EXCEL Campus Activities will start the night off with roller skating from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Palo Duro Lounge, followed by a movie screening in the Rosebud Theatre. A silent disco will close out the event midnight to 3 a.m. in the Bluebonnet Ballroom. Other activities such as karaoke, board games, bingo and arts and crafts will be available 7 to 11 p.m. in the upper level of the UC. This event is free for all Mavericks and multiple snacks and meals will be provided throughout the night. Cookies, candy and a mocktail bar will be available 7 to 9 p.m. From 10 p.m. to midnight, a breakfast and coffee bar will be open and from 1 to 3 a.m. nachos and soft drinks will be served. “This event is just a great time to mingle with new friends, returning friends as well, and try something new,” EXCEL president Lisa-Marie Akindayomi said. The purpose of Maverick Stampede week is for students to get acclimated to college life, and EXCEL programming director Intesar Husain said having this event be the first of the semester is a great place to start. Anyone planning to arrive at the event after 11 p.m. should enter the UC through the northeast entrance closest to the Bluebonnet Ballroom, Husain said, because that will be the only door open. “It is happening for the first time ever on campus,” he said. “It’s going to be a memorable experience for those who can make it to the event.” @reyyhankilic news-editor.shorthorn@uta.edu
