Jason Shelton, professor of sociology, will present his new book “The Contemporary Black Church: The New Dynamics of African American Religion.” The colloquium will be held at 12 p.m. on March 31 in Room 432 of University Hall.Abstract:Recent decades have ushered in a profound transformation within Black America, characterized by an explosion of religious diversification and individualism. African Americans are departing from historic denominations that anchored the historic Black Church, which has fueled a rising number of “nones.” The Contemporary Black Church shows religion and politics are dramatically changing in Black America, which raises major questions about the future of African American unity and the sense of community.

This event will feature engaging icebreaker games, an introduction to KCA’s upcoming activities, including our participation in International Week (I-Week), and the promotion of officer applications for those interested in leadership roles within the organization. While no food will be provided, the meeting serves as a platform to connect students, promote cultural exchange, and generate excitement for I-Week. By highlighting KCA’s involvement in I-Week events and showcasing aspects of Korean culture, this meeting actively contributes to the celebration of international diversity at UTA.
