The Center for Mexican American Studies presents Edith Merino discussing "Projectos Sociales Binacionales."Edith Yolanda Merino, legal representative and director of migrant services for Fuerza Migrante, will discuss the development and management of binational social programs at the local level. Fuerza Migrante is a binational organization that advocates and promotes the economic, social, and political empowerment of new generations of Mexican migrants and Mexican-Americans in the United States and Mexico. Through civic participation and education projects like MÍRAME (Mis Raíces Mexicanas), Edith Merino and Fuerza Migrante are questioning what we currently understand as “development” at the regional level and empowering indigenous communities in Mexico to participate as agents of change.Creating economic alternatives for migrants returning to Mexico is fundamental for their socioeconomic integration and the development of their communities of origin, which is why Fuerza Migrante, in collaboration with other associations, is implementing MÍRAME, a project aimed at ensuring that any Mexican product sold in the local or global market has the goal of generating income, employment and sustainable support in indigenous and migrant-expelling communities.MíRAME is being developed as a distinctive brand that aims to guarantee the quality of its products and services to companies or cooperatives in accordance with sector and industry-specific standards while benefitting Indigenous and migrant-expelling communities.Edith Yolanda Merino is a graduate of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Lic. Public Administration, Political Science), Universidad Anáhuac Puebla and the Instituto de Administración Pública del Estado de Puebla A.C. (MA, Government Auditing). Her expertise in human rights, gender politics and policy, and project management are currently applied in her work as legal representative and director of migrant services for Fuerza Migrante.Note: This presentation will be presented in Spanish.Coffee and snacks are provided.
