- Feb 23All day"Love is in the Archives" Mini-ExhibitIn celebration of Valentine's Day, UTA Special Collections has a mini-exhibit on display throughout the month of February, showcasing items in the collection relating to expressions of friendship, affection, and romance through a variety of historical artifacts.Special Collections invites the UTA community to learn more and view the mini-exhibit during the Central Library's open hours, Tuesday, February 4 - Friday, February 28. The exhibit is located just outside the doors of Special Collections in the Atrium, located on the sixth floor of the Central Library.
- Feb 23All dayThe Battle of Buena Vista Mini ExhibitUTA Special Collections presents a mini-exhibit on the Battle of Buena Vista. 178 years ago on February 22-23, 1847, U.S. troops led by General Zachary Taylor met Mexican troops led by General Santa Anna. Although neither side gained much, both nations claimed victory and used the battle as a rallying cry. Materials include first-hand accounts written by soldiers at the battle, hand drawn maps, celebratory sheet music, and newspaper articles that tell the story of the battle from both sides.
- Feb 232:00 PMGuest Artist Recital: Fidan Edler, pianoOn February 23 in FA 258, the UTA Department of Music will present a master class (2-3 p.m.) and recital (4-5:30 pm) by Fidan Edler, a prominent figure in the contemporary music scene with a special focus on women composers. Her innovative work has been recognized and supported by prestigious grants and scholarships from Musikfonds Berlin, Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung, Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa, and many others.Throughout 2024, Edler performed 300 works by 100 composers, including 20 world premieres from all five continents. She also created a comprehensive database of women composers on Spotify, inspired by Hilary Hahn’s #100daysofpractice challenge. One of her latest projects featured a 24-hour solo piano performance, live-streamed on social media.Edler’s recordings have been broadcast by Bayerischer Rundfunk, RBB Kultur, Klassikcast (Goethe-Institut), MDR Figaro, KAN Israel, Radio France, Český rozhlas, and more. Her solo albums include Verbotene Klänge: Sechs Suiten (2019), released by Kreuzberg Records, which showcases works by persecuted composers, and Fenster (2022), released by GENUIN, featuring compositions by seven contemporary female composers. The latter was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and ECHO Klassik. Her collaborations extend to albums such as Klavierwerke (2016), Twenty for Piano (2020), and The Black Garden (2020).
